You are invited to participate in a two-year study to explore the experience of women with breast cancer who decline one or more conventional treatments (surgery, radiation, chemotherapy and hormone therapy) and use complementary therapies. We are interested in learning about:

  • What influenced your decision to decline conventional cancer treatment
  • What alternative approaches you are using for your breast cancer
  • Whether you change your decision about conventional treatment
  • How your quality of life and well-being changes over 2 years
  • Your ideas about how to support women with breast cancer who are making decisions about conventional and complementary approaches
You may be eligible for the study if you:
  • Were diagnosed with breast cancer (Stage 0-III) for the first time in the last 3 months to 5 years
  • Have no recurrence
  • Declined a conventional treatment recommended by your cancer specialist
  • Are using complementary therapies

If you decide to be in the study, you will be asked to:

  • Participate in a one-hour telephone interview when you start the study
  • Complete questionnaires four times in two-years (15 minutes each)
  • Attend a focus group (optional)

Note: Women with breast cancer who have accepted all conventional treatment will be recruited later the in the study through cancer registries
