Course Description
- Computer system fundamentals, personal computer applications software, and computer communications both on campus and using the internet. Students will use personal computers to complete assignments in Windows Operating System, Microsoft Word processing, PowerPoint and other applications.
- Students come to this course with varied experience, but the course is designed to be accessible to students with little computer experience. You will become familiar with personal computers and their major applications, as well as the campus computing facilities and access to the Internet. The course content and activities should provide a basis for using a computer as a tool in your studies, your career and your personal life. The course emphasizes student activity. This means that a significant portion of what you learn will come from actually working with a computer. A computer lab is available for your use during the term. You will be required to complete assignments, complete assigned readings and participate in an online discussion forum.
Objectives
- Achieve a touch typing speed of at least 30 WPM with an 80% accuracy
- Students will be able to use a computer as a tool in their studies, careers and personal lives
- Students will gain immediate skills in using the major applications of personal computers, campus computing facilities, and the Internet
Class Dates and Times
There are two sections of CPSC 203, schedule A and schedule B.
Schedule A is Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday with Lecture at 9-11 am and lab at 1-3 pm.
Schedule B is Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday at 4-6 pm, with an alternating lecture and labSwitching between Schedule A and B, will only be permitted under special unavoidable situations and will be at the discretion of the instructor. Students will need to complete a form and submit to the instructor one week prior to the switch.

Lesson Quizzes 20% (there are ten)

Class Participation 10% (this includes attendance and active participation in class)

Final Exam 20% Based on the material in the 10 lesson quizzes.
