Next Generation Internet Research Suite

This research suite is currently dedicated to investigating Canada’s advanced Internet, CA*net4 and its deployment into the health field. This is the world’s first national optical research network, and leads the development and implementation of advanced networks in Canada.  It is also the network that was used for the BELLE project.

CA*net4 connects multimedia materials to client learning environments at different health educational institutions across the country.  This network allows users to access real-time video, create 3D screen objects for manipulation, and connect within virtual environments.  The broadband network provides client learning environments, a national shared server, a shared object repository, and video serving and video streaming capabilities.

Functionality:
Client Learning Environment (CLE; desktop application), video, audio, equipment rack and installation, and plasma display.

Examples of research foci:
Next Generation Internet (CA*Net4); Human Technology Interface; Retinopathy Camera; Wireless Devices.

Collaborators:
The Telehealth Program has collaborated with Netera and the BELLE Project Consortium for this research.
