Research Domains

Our team conducts telehealth research activities at international, national, provincial, regional, and local levels in four research domains:

  1. e-Health Policy and Social Benefits
Investigation into equality of access, cross-jurisdictional care, telehealth barriers and enablers, workforce/workflow issues, and telehealth readiness from the patient/provider level to the international level.

  2. e-Health Impact and Outcomes
Research into the effectiveness, efficiency, utility, cost-benefits, quality of life, and quality of care, to provide clear evidence of ‘value’.

  3. e-Health Technology Applications
Examination of the utility and impact of telehealth technology on the human/machine interface, and investigation of video/based or web-based applications, the ‘next generation Internet’ (speed, image quality, costs, access, security, and bandwidth), and broadband, wireless and portable devices.

  4. e-Health Technology Innovation
Investigation of future (3rd wave) and new technologies (Personal Digital Assistants [PDAs] and wireless technology) or new telehealth applications (Pediatric Ophthalmology). This type of activity is often of interest to industry partners, as there is a strong market for developments that have been proven to function in “real-life” situations, and where the telehealth application or technology is backed by sound research.
